TURNING HEARTS TOGETHER     Nutritional Healing with Lori Henderson

“A truly healthy person is one who carefully balances physical, mental and spiritual well-being into a fully integrated way of life.”                                                                                                    – Unknown

My interest in nutrition and personal journey to health began in 1999. With diseases and cancers overtaking family members, I determined to find ways to prevent the same from happening to me and my children. The words of Hippocrates rang true to my heart:

“Let thy food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

It’s a fact that America spends more on health care than any other nation, nearly double the world average. We are a nation in crisis – a health crisis. And not just physical health, but mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

According to the CDC (U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), “Chronic Diseases are the leading cause of death and disability in the United States. Conditions such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and arthritis are among the most common, costly, and preventable of all health problems.” (Italics added.)

The projected total cost of chronic disease for the period 2016-2030 in America is $42 trillion!

This does not have to be your destiny. You have the power to do something about it. A shift in perception is all you need to get started. Consider the healing power in these affirmations:

❤ What I see in sickness and suffering is opportunity and possibilities.
❤ What the mind can conceive, it can achieve.
❤ I trust my body’s desire and ability to heal.
❤ Miracles are all around us, every day.
❤ “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine.” (Proverbs 17:22)

I practice a holistic approach to health which includes wholesome foods, joyful movement, and energy work – the perfect trifecta to achieve health and vitality. I teach clients to recognize their symptoms (physical, emotional, spiritual) as gifts. They are the body’s way of communicating to us that it is in need of change. Learning to listen to your own body and understanding the messages it is sending to you is just the beginning. Together we create a lifestyle plan specific to the client’s needs, desires and abilities. Recognizing and releasing stumbling blocks, old patterns, and limiting beliefs through energy work is essential to success and is so liberating. Incorporating “mindfulness” into your lifestyle program enhances the benefits to overall health and well-being by enlivening the senses, enhancing feelings of gratitude, and increasing motivation and joy in the journey.

I also encourage my clients to grow as much food as possible in whatever space they have. The more we connect with Nature in all of our healthy endeavors, the better the results. Not many things in life are as gratifying as caring for a garden with the same love and attention we should be giving ourselves and our families. Fruits, vegetables, culinary herbs and medicinal herbs can become your personal grocery store right in your own backyard, or in pots on your patio, or even right on your kitchen counter. Make this your new mantra: Living foods give life!

There are so many wonderful things to learn and explore when we make the choice to take responsibility for our health.

As Robert Frost concluded in his poem The Road Not Taken:

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

and that has made all the difference.”

I invite you to choose a new path, one that leads to true health and vitality.

Sincerely,

P.S.
